Hi. My name is Emily Hites. I'm a California Licensed Midwife and Certified Professional Midwife attending women and their families, in Santa Cruz County. I'm so happy you're here. Birth is new and ancient every time. My philosophy of care is based on an ecological view of health and the belief that the relationships we have with our community and environment are deeply impactful to how we birth babies, raise families, and thrive. Understanding the intelligence of our bodies and the story of how we have been biologically designed for health is important to having a physiologic birth.

During your care, I monitor the physical, emotional and spiritual health of you and your baby to ensure safety and confidence.

I provide educational resources and recommend clients do research on their own to be able to make the best decisions for their bodies and birth experiences.

Ecological and Evidence Based
I use my knowledge of traditional herbalism, ancestral nutrition, and a community based, ecological understanding of the human story to contextualize health in this modern era, in addition to evidence based practices.
Collaboration
I am able to make referrals to complimentary or more advanced care, if the need arises.
Trust
Your care is based on trust in the wisdom of you and your baby and the innate normalcy and transformative power of birth. Interventions are used minimally, appropriately and with consent.
